3 Great Safari Options To Try Out Next Year

A safari is a wonderful holiday option, giving people a chance to experience the wild bush and savanna, while watching iconic wild animals in their natural habitat. However, what you might not know is that Africa is not the only continent where a safari trip can be experienced. One lesser-known African safari destination will be included below.

1. Asian safari in Borneo

A wonderful safari experience can be enjoyed on the island of Borneo. Visitors can explore the ancient lush green rainforests on what is the third largest island in the world. Here you will encounter indigenous tribes and a fascinating variety of wildlife.

Probably the most important is the endangered orangutans. As these playful creatures are gradually losing their habitat elsewhere, due to man chopping down their forests, Borneo is a good place to see them while you can. It is also home to the beautiful and vulnerable clouded leopards, with their unusual markings.

The island also features beautiful craggy mountains, gorgeous beaches and rivers, making it a great place to enjoy a holiday. The best time to visit is between February and November each year. Of interest to note Borneo does not belong to just one country. The island consists of two Malaysian States – Sabah and Sarawak – as well as the small nation of Brunei and Kalimantan in Indonesia.

2. Safari in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa

When it comes to safaris in South Africa, most people think Kruger National Park. However, there are other great locations to see some of the iconic Big 5 in that country, including Pilanesberg National Park.

Pilanesberg National Park is nestled in the Bojanala Region of North West Province and is reasonably close to Johannesburg. Sitting as it is between the Lowveld and the Kalahari, Pilanesberg offers a thrilling big game experience. This is along with a wide range of affordable and luxurious lodging options in Pilanesberg.

Pilanesberg is a great place to see the iconic Big 5, surrounded by truly beautiful scenery, especially around Makewe Dam. Besides the lion, elephant, leopard, Cape buffalo and rhinoceros, visitors get a good view of zebra, water buck, impala and wildebeest. This is especially so around the grassland close to the dam.

3. Safari trip in Ecuador

Next stop on our safari adventure is Ecuador, a Latin American country with loads to offer on a wildlife-viewing trip. This fascinating country also incorporates the unique Galapagos Islands, where this friendly face can be seen.

Along the way, you can visit beautiful colonial cities including Lima or Quito before heading out into the rainforest, uninhabited islands or the countryside around the cities.

Depending on the area, you can view a wide range of wildlife on a safari in Ecuador, including the beautiful llamas pictured below. You can also watch the fascinating turtles while you relax on pristine beaches.
