CARIBBEAN TRAVEL INFORMATION
Caribbean Travel   by John Gulick II

Cape Samana, Dominican RepublicWhen it comes to vacation destinations that are all about having fun in the sun, nothing beats the Caribbean. Situated just to the south and east of Mexico and north and west of Venezuela, South America where the waters are clear and the sun is hot, a Caribbean move around vacation has something for you - whether you are one for water sports, hiking, swimming, snorkling, and just plain frolicking in its white sand beaches.

But traveling to a hot destination like the Caribbean can be quite expensive, and for this reason, many people balk at the idea of a Caribbean travel. Indeed, why spend so much on a single vacation when you can visit much less expensive vacation destinations? Never mind if these places don't even come close to what a Caribbean travel does for you.

Ah, but what if we told you that there's a much better way to spend a pleasure trip? What if we had said to you that you can go on a Caribbean travel vacation without having to spend a lot of your hard-earned cash? A Caribbean travel for less! Now, there's a miracle.

Below are four chic hotels where you can keep the island flavor high and the prices at a bare minimum while on a Caribbean travel vacation.

Flash and Glamour - Anguilla

The most northerly of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, Anguilla is an caribbean known for the flash and glamour of many of its resorts. For this reason, the island is a popular Caribbean get around destination for many visitors who want to pamper in the compelling charm, romance, and excitement that the islands are known for.

Rendezvous Bay Hotel & Villas may not have all that flash and glamour, but it lacks in that area, the hotel makes up for its location and fantastic rates (starts at $130 while settlement costs $275). This Caribbean travel bureau resort hotel offers 46 rooms, all sitting directly on 50 palm-laden acres of fronting a 1 ½ mile long sugary powder beach. The resort has been recently renovated, offering white tile floors and simple rattan furnishings, and is divided among a dozen low-rise buildings.

Another worthy hotel group is Ku, its name meaning "sacred place" in the Arawak Indian language. With room price starting at $295, this 27-suite hotel overlooks Shoal Bay East and are South Beach-chic, with minimalist white décor, air conditioning, and full kitchens.

Honeymoon Favorite - Antigua

Located just south of another popular Caribbean travel destination of Barbuda, Antigua markets itself as a luxury Caribbean travel escape. Its many hotels and places located around the coastline are all favorites when it comes to honeymooning while on a Caribbean travel.

While you don't have to be on your honeymoon to enjoy Antigua's island charm, the Cocobay Resort's location on a hillside facing the Caribbean Sea makes for a very romantic atmosphere. The idyllic hotel is made of 47 Creole-style cottages in soft pastel hues with rates that are very affordable at $240.

Hybrid Beat - Bahamas

If you want a decidedly patrician vibe during your Caribbean travel vacation, then the Landing, a seven-room inn on Harbour Island is exactly for you. There are no televisions, no phones, or Internet connections - things that distract you from the sheer beauty of the beach a few blocks away. And for only $240, you can get one of the bay-view rooms, which offer the best views of the harbor and comes with crisp white linens, terraces, and four-poster beds.

Seniors: Seeking Sandy Escapes? Search the Caribbean   by Jennifer Smith

Travelers of all ages can enjoy a visit to the Caribbean, but some islands are better suited to certain kinds of travelers than others. For example, younger travelers may want to search out places filled with hot nightspots, while those with families will want to choose islands where children can feel welcome. Senior travelers, on the other hand, can feel at home on almost any island in the Caribbean.

The biggest things to consider when planning a vacation to the Caribbean are the activities you'd like to pursue during your stay. Active travelers may wish to hike, sail, or snorkel. Different islands offer all of these activities, though some are known for snorkeling while others are better known for their nature trails. Still others may have a reputation for all-inclusive resorts and beautiful beaches.

Travelers searching for senior-friendly island activities can choose from the following, or explore other options, like seniors cruises and group trips.

Palm Trees, Grand Cayman IslandBeaches: The Caribbean is known for its stunning beaches, of course, but many seniors may not find The Bahamas' famous Cable Beach as appealing as the tranquil shores of Aruba. Anguilla is also known for its gorgeous views and quiet shores, as well as for a somewhat more upscale atmosphere resulting from its British heritage. Another island to consider might be Tobago, known as one of the best spots for senior travelers and home to a number of beautiful beaches.

Golf: Golf is a sport enjoyed by many people, and the Caribbean is home to some of the world's best courses. Travelers visiting Jamaican resorts such as the Wyndham Rose Hall and the Ritz-Carlton, or Aruba's Tierra del Sol, for example, will have the chance to play at courses created by world-class designers. The Dominican Republic, too, is home to famed courses like the Teeth of the Dog.

Spas: Another great way to relax during a vacation is by visiting a spa. Spas may not specifically target seniors, but relaxation is great for travelers of all ages. Couples can enjoy a spa together, or one can relax and be pampered while the other explores the resort's other amenities or nearby sites of interest. Indulgent spa opportunities can be found on just about any island, from the French/Dutch St. Martin/Maarten to tiny Saba, though frequently spas are a part of a larger hotel.

Casinos: Gambling can be a fun way to spend an evening after an active day. The sister islands of Antigua and Barbuda offer a relaxing vacation to travelers by day, while at the same time providing a bit of nightlife. Similarly, the Dutch desert of Aruba has more than 10 casinos - many of which open in the early afternoon, though they don't close until dawn. For those looking for a bit of Latin flare, Puerto Rico is home to a few casinos as well, though these do have to follow some U.S. laws - most notably gamblers are restricted from drinking while playing games.

There are also plenty of ways to customize a vacation, and seniors are often given the tools to do just that. The AARP can help seniors to get discounts on travel, as well. Just remember to ask for a discount, as most places do not offer it to customers first.

Travel to the Caribbean can be full of active adventures, but it's easy to find a bit of peace and quiet during your stay.

Caribbean Travel Deals And Information   by Frank Johnson

If you want to travel to the Caribbean, you have many options to choose from. Your Caribbean travel destinations include:

# Antigua and Barbuda # Haiti # Aruba # Jamaica # Bahamas # Martinique # Barbados # Puerto Rico # Cayman Islands # St. Kitts and Nevis # Cuba # St. Lucia # Dominica # St. Vincent and the Grenadines # Dominican Republic # Trinidad and Tobago # Grenada # Turks & Caicos Islands # Guadeloupe # Virgin Islands

Each destination offers its own experiences and exotic ambiance. Use this guide to learn about the Caribbean and what you need to know before you disembark on your trip.

Caribbean Weather

Bequia, St. Vincent, St. Vincent and the GrenadinesMost people travel to the Caribbean because of the region's amazing weather. Sunny with a steady breeze, the Caribbean provides ideal weather for hours of sunbathing and frolicking in the ocean. All islands, for the most part, offer the same climate with slight variations in weather patterns here and there (and the occasional tropical rainfall), making any island you select an ideal destination for your tropical paradise.

However, the majority of the Caribbean is within a hurricane belt. This means that during certain times of the year, the Caribbean can be hit by hurricanes. The official hurricane season in the Caribbean is June 1st to November 30th with August to October being peak months. Now even though the hurricane season is smack dab in the middle of prime summer vacation time, you need not worry. With technology today and weather tracking, it's now possible to identify when a hurricane or major storm will hit. So, if you're planning a Caribbean travel trip, find out what the current hurricane season is like and how the island of choice will fair during it.

Palm Beach, ArubaSouthern islands such as Barbados and Aruba, on the other hand, lie outside of the Caribbean hurricane belt and almost never fall victim to hurricanes. If you don't want to worry about planning your Caribbean trip around the hurricane season, the southern islands of the Caribbean are the best way to go.

Caribbean Activities

Each Caribbean destination has its own terrain and landscape, providing its own unique activities. Almost all destinations have amazing beaches, but some also have tropical rain forests and mountains. Puerto Rico, for example, has the only rainforest that's part of the U.S. National Parks system. Aruba, on the other hand, is one of the only islands that offer a non-tropical environment, offering dryer surroundings. So, depending on your Caribbean travel destination, your activities are limited to the natural makeup of the island. But in general, your activities will include sunbathing, playing in the ocean, nature hikes through the lush terrain (if available), trips into town to purchase the local merchandise, and experiencing the island nightlife.

Caribbean travel destinations are the key to a tropical getaway. With many island destinations to choose from, all offering optimal weather and relaxing activities, the Caribbean is definitely a destination to put on your list of places to visit.
