The Lake District is a sprawling national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning scenery, including fells, mountains and lakes. Meanwhile, pretty towns in the area offer beauty, shopping, art galleries, hotels and a rich cultural heritage. For those seeking relaxation, this is the perfect location.

Since 2020, what with the pandemic and trying to keep up with our work, life has been stressful. Add the recent unusual heatwaves to the mix and everyone feels exhausted. Why not take a break and head to England’s beautiful Lake District to chill out and relax? If you can’t stay away for a week or two, even a weekend in nature can make you feel better. Here we have a brief look at what you can do to relax in these beautiful surroundings.

One of the best ways to chill out and relax is by practicing yoga in lush and beautiful surroundings. Enjoy a scenic Lake District yoga retreat to not only learn yoga, but also go hiking with a guide to visit the beautiful lakes in the area. Yoga and meditation are among the best ways to ease stress, allowing you to fully relax before getting back into your busy life. After a busy day, enjoy an evening yin and yoga session, followed by a healthy and delicious vegan or vegetarian dinner.

The Lake District offers many opportunities to enjoy a guided walk through the gorgeous scenery. From April to October each year, visitors can choose from a range of easy to medium level walks, while exploring and learning about the area. In 2022, all the guided walks are free to book, with groups of up to 20 people. Among the walks available are Waterfalls, Quarries and Lakeland Slate, Black Crag and Yewdale and Cathedral Cave. Get out in the fresh air, enjoying the scenery around you and learning more about the Lake District along the way.

Dark skies and stargazing

With its remote fell tops and secluded valleys, the Lake District offers some of the darkest skies in the UK. When the skies are clear, this makes it the perfect location to go stargazing away from the busy cities and towns. You will be amazed to see the stars and constellations clearly above you, while relaxing in nature. Some of the best places for dark skies and stargazing are Ennerdale, Wasdale, Grizedale Forest, the Langdale Valley and Borrowdale Valley.

Boating in the Lake District

England’s Lake District offers more than sixteen lakes, plus even a stretch of coastline. This means there is plenty of opportunity to get out on the water in the fresh air. Try your hand at rowing, windsurfing, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking or fishing. Four of the lakes have water sport centers where you can hire a boat or get involved in water sports. Choose from Coniston, Derwent Water, Ullswater or Windermere and have loads of fun out on the water.

Enjoy a quiet and relaxing trip to the Lake District this year and afterwards, head home thoroughly relaxed and rested.
