Situated
in Johannesburg's most exclusive residential suburb, The Westcliff's hillside
setting with cascading, sculpted gardens and elegantly opulent accommodation
evoke a bygone era of leisure and refinement in one of the world's most
vibrant and cosmopolitan cities.
The
hotel is a short drive from the many shopping malls Johannesburg is renowned
for and just 22 km from O.R. Tambo (Johannesburg) International Airport.
|
|
|
The
hotel also offers easy access to key business centres and is within easy
reach of numerous historical, sporting and adventure destinations, while
being surrounded by a proliferation of character-filled suburbs.
The
magnificent manicured gardens of The Westcliff cascade down the rocky hillside
and are testament to its award-winning landscaping and maintenance by a
team of resident gardeners. Gorgeous roses, flowerbeds and lush greenery
abound, making their home amidst charming cobbled pathways, courtyards
and soothing water features. Because the estate is built into a steep
cliffside, microbuses and club cars transport guests around the property.
However, footlinks are available for guests who enjoy walking. |

Luxury
with Personality
All
our rooms have windows that open, while double-glazing, heavy drapes and
individually controlled air-conditioning ensure a haven of peaceful seclusion
at any given time. Mood lighting is standard, plush robes are provided
and in-room dining is available around the clock.
Each
of the extravagantly-sized bedrooms and suites at The Westcliff has been
individually decorated by renowned South Africa interior designer, Graham
Viney. No two are the same in terms of shape, layout or décor.
The configuration of The Westcliff – nine villas and no central lobby –
provides cosily intimate settings which assure privacy. |
|
|
Dozens
of the features found in every room at The Westcliff have come into being
as a result of the personal experiences of James B Sherwood, Chairman and
founder of Orient-Express Hotels. Having travelled the world continuously
since 1955, he insists that the Group’s hotels provide five-star comfort
while avoiding the impersonality of large hotel chains.
Some
of these features unique to The Westcliff and other Orient-Express hotels
include the pop-up television at the foot of the bed, sound-proofed
street-facing windows, luggage and hanging areas in large bathrooms so
that clothes can air and steam. |
|
All
televisions have integral VCR players and each hotel provides tapes or
discs of all Academy Award-winning films - since “Wings”, the very first
dating from 1927! There is also a selection of movies with
an Orient-Express connection including Murder on the Orient Express, From
Russia With Love, Strangers on a Train and Shanghai Express.
All
rooms have a writing bureau, international plugs, two-line touch-dial telephones
with data ports and voicemail, satellite television and video recorder.
A butler station with mini-bar is standard and guests may request bottled
water and a daily newspaper. The spacious marble bathrooms, all of
which are en-suite, feature bath and shower, handwash basins and heated
towel rack. Shaving mirrors, shaver sockers, bathroom scales and
illuminated make-up mirrors, as well as a range of luxury toiletries are
provided. |

Tennis
High
above the city’s northern suburbs, the all-weather tennis court turns an
ordinary game into something special – particularly if playing at night
under floodlight. (As Johannesburg is located some 6000 feet above sea-level,
this is a case of playing tennis a mile high - literally!)
The
Gymnasium
With
magnificent, breathtaking views, the well-equipped gymnasium is available
to all guests for use. A personal trainer can be arranged upon request.
|
|
Jogging
and Cycling
Explore
the historic surrounds of Westcliff and Parkview by taking off on one of
the four mountain bikes available for the exclusive use of hotel guests. |
|
Golf
An
incredible 36 of the top 100 golf courses in South Africa are located within
an hour’s driving time from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, which means
golfers are more than spoilt for choice.
Golfing
enthusiasts can enjoy the facilities of a nearby club, which offers guest
membership benefits to guests of The Westcliff.
Moreover,
your golfing experience in the city can be made considerably more pleasant
and easy by hiring the services of a golf concierge service. Arrangements
can be made via the Front Desk.
