Slovakia Tatras Mountains: most attractive holiday destination for Slovaks

Slovakia Tatras Mountains: most attractive holiday destination for Slovaks   by Michael Johns

The Tatras Mountains are "the place to be" according to Slovakian nationals. The high Tatras is Slovakia's most attractive holiday region, according to a public opinion poll conducted by the TNS SK agency on a sample of 997 respondents in November 2006.

People Walking Down Cobbled Laneway in Old Town, Bratislava, SlovakiaAs much as 45.7 percent of respondents chose the High Tatras as Slovakia's most attractive region. Slovak Paradise came in second, with 15.9 percent of respondents labelling it the most attractive. The Low Tatras was the most attractive region for 9.8 percent of respondents. Orava followed with six percent and Bratislava was fifth with 5.7 percent.

Young people (up to 29 years of age), older people (over 60 years), citizens of large cities (with a population over 100,000) and people from the regions of Košice, Banská Bystrica and Tren?ín all chose the Tatras mountains as attractive tourist destinations.

Most respondents go on holiday to have fun and attend cultural events. Among other important factors when planning a holiday are opportunities to go hiking in the mountains and the possibility of relaxing at a spa. People also like to visit interesting destinations and see historical monuments. Some Slovaks like to visit resorts that have sports facilities such as tennis courts, golf courses, swimming pools, and so on.

A good selection of services also influences people's selection of holiday destination. For Slovaks, the most important services include restaurants with a good menu, quality accommodation in a hotel or a bed and breakfast, and flexibility in planning meals at their hotel. Other important points included whether or not there was a pool, fitness centre and the possibility to get a massage. It seems that healthy living is coming into the foreground for Slovaks even when they are on holiday.
