Hotel Bandolero - Charming Small Hotel near
Ronda, in Andalucia, Spain

Steely grey mountain tops, soaring eagles, deep valley vistas, verdant chestnut trees, white villages, big sky, wild flowers & cactus, mountain goats, boars, black pigs & rabbits…. these are some of the scenes to behold while staying at Hotel Bandolero. El Bandolero is a small, charming rural hotel and restaurant tucked away in one of the seven small white villages of the Upper Genal Valley in the Ronda Mountains in the greenest part of Andalusia.

Owners David and Ivan welcome you to their charming accommodation in the village of Júzcar in the Genal Valley where you can escape all the pressures and stress of urban life. Experience the pace of traditional Spanish living while relaxing on the terrace, sampling local Ronda wines and tapas as you enjoy the marvellous views that the lush chestnut tree country of the Upper Genal Valley has to offer.

Energetic springtime visitors will get to view some of the 2,000 species of blossoming wild flowers in the pristine valley while on marked walks between the seven white villages of the Alto Genal. Autumnal visitors will enjoy the changing colours of the chestnut trees while summertime visitors can swim & relax poolside at the hotel or participate in extreme outdoor adventures in and around the Genal River in Júzcar; for birdwatchers, there are many varieties of migrating birds year round throughout the Serrania de Ronda (Ronda mountains).

For everyone all year, the mountaintops offer spectacular views, including all the way to Africa! There are also two large natural parks nearby, La Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve and Grazalema Natural Park, both excellent locations for walking and bird watching. The European Commission has designated La Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve to be a destination of distinction and excellence.

Of course there is El Bandolero to discover. El Bandolero, constructed in a rustic style in 2001, offers tapas and creative cuisine along with the creature comforts of country living.

Sample the delicious cuisine of Chef Iván, a Cordon Bleu trained chef with work experience in some fine London restaurants; sip a refreshing “tinto de verano” (red wine and lemonade over ice) on any one of El Bandolero’s terraces, taste the tapas, relax and let the views carry you away.

All of this is available here, in the tiny, charming village of Júzcar. Stunning views of the greenest part of Andalusia, peace and tranquillity and a warm welcome from local residents.

Hotel Bandolero is perfectly situated for special holiday escapes. The hotel offers theme holidays including painting workshops (featuring pastels, oils and water colours), walking holidays in the Genal Valley, La Sierra de las Nieves and throughout the Serrania de Ronda, guided bird watching holidays and accommodation, an extreme outdoor adventure package, wine tasting weekends featuring locally produced Ronda wines and relaxation package to comfort & pamper you. Activities
Hotel Bandolero is found in the small amd charming white village of Júzcar. Júzcar (pronounced "WHO-th-car") is situated among the lush chestnut tree country of the spectacular Serranía de Ronda, 20 odd kilometers from the town of Ronda. It offers various walks for the energetic, peace and quiet for the weary and is centrally located in the Serranía for those wanting to explore the area. The history here goes back for thousands of years, stretching from pre-historic cave paintings through the traces of Phoenician visits to the long periods of Roman and Moorish periods to the latest era of Christian Spain. Visitors may enjoy it all; cool mountains, Andalucian architecture, soaring eagles and other wild life, stunning views and delicious cuisine…... all while enjoying the tranquillity and peacefulness of the Genal Valley.
The Genal Valley is divided into two parts, the Upper and Lower Valleys. The Upper Valley comprises seven white villages with the largest being Igualeja and the smallest being Cartajima. The Lower Valley comprises eight white villages found mainly along route A369 between Ronda and Algeciras. Each village has something different to see, most have a place where one can enjoy a tapas or two and a drink, all have spectaular views of one sort or another and share in the history that goes back thousands of years. In summer, all have their dates for their annual fiestas, a traditional event that should be experienced at least once.
Juzcar
The Upper Valley may be of particular interest to writers or painters. The incredible mountain and valley views, old tiled rooves of houses and whole villages, crumbling ruins, constant changing light, all offering a wide variety of subjects for painters. The tranquillity of the area may be just what a writer needs to get that latest work completed, whether reading or writing it. It would certainly be of interest to bird watchers. There are eagles, owls, woodpeckers, thrush, wheateatters, bee-eaters and vultures amongst the bird life available in this area. One can sit on the terrace of the Bandolero and see or hear owls, eagles and sometimes vultures; the odd European bee-eatter has been spoted as have woodpeckers from the Bandolero terrace. And if you´re interested in the stars, what better place to come than the mountains of southern Spain to see a night show of lights?
Júzcar is also home to the source of the Arroyo Riachuelo, one of the arroyos (streams) that contribute to the Genal River. In the bottom of the valley below Júzcar village, there is a chiringuito (snack stand) selling cool drinks, ice cream and tapas. There is a campsite covered in Poplar trees creating lovely soft shade from the strong Andalucian sun... the Genal River passes through here as well. During the summer months, the bridge is blocked under which passes the river thereby creating a natural fresh swimming pool. This is a lovely, peaceful location to sit and read, drink a beer or other refreshment, have a siesta, and a swim.... very refreshing, relaxing and cool. Júzcar also has a municipal pool, cool mountain tops, groves of chestnut trees, a couple of bars, a "pub/club", residents with character, an old church, four fountains with mountain fresh, pure water and fantastic views of the surrounding area.
